Former Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales Faces 2-1/2-year Jail Term Prosecution


On 27 March 2024, Luis Rubiales, former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and three other Spanish football officials were publicly indicted by the Spanish prosecutor's office regarding the events that occurred in the final of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in the context of the Jennifer Hermoso Kissgate scandal.

During the celebration of Spain’s victory over England, Mr. Rubiales, back then RFEF President, gave Jenni Hermoso, striker of the Spanish national team and second-ranked at the 2021 Ballon d’Or Féminin, a kiss.

More precisely, at the champions’ medals ceremony, the former head of Spanish football was so euphoric with the players that he kissed Mrs. Hermoso on the mouth. Spanish and international sports and political stakeholders met this gesture with widespread condemnation and concern.
