The Nullity of a Termination Clause

As per resolution dated on 29 July 2016, but which grounds were notified on 17 January 2017, the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) decided to declare null and void a termination clause which established that the Ecuadoran club Barcelona Sporting Club could unilaterally terminate the contract with a player by paying him the monthly amount of USD 9,500 (approx. EUR 8,800) during six months, thus amounting to USD 66,500 (approx. EUR 61,000).

Such power had been conferred exclusively on the club, while if the player intended to unilaterally terminate the contract, he was to pay the amount of USD 1,000,000 (approx. EUR 920,000).
