The New Version of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players Comes into Force!

On 1 June 2018, important amendments to the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) came into effect. Unpaid salaries, the effectiveness of financial sanctions against clubs or players, the calculation of indemnities in the event of breach of contract without just cause, these evolutions published by FIFA in two circulars of 26 April and 9 May 2018 are an extension of the agreement passed at the end of 2017 between FIFPro, the European Club Association (ECA) and the World Leagues Forum. According to FIFA, this reform of the RSTP is part of the primary aim of the regulation: to ensure the contractual stability of relations between players and clubs. 

Unpaid salaries and breach of contract with just cause

First of all, Article 14 of the RSTP now contains a paragraph 2 which provides for a right to terminate the contract with just cause or to modify the terms of the contract, in the event that a party has an abusive behaviour. This provision applies mutually to players and clubs.
