Identity
There is no doubt that more than defining the identity of our National Representative Team, the Uruguayan National Team is a definer of national identity by itself. It is the National Team itself, a pure expression that reaffirms our national identity. In Uruguay, football is causally linked to the construction of the national identity at the beginning of the 20th century, sustained by the sporting successes of 1924, 1928 and 1930. No one could believe that an insignificant point in the world, such a small country, could appear in the world’s main newspapers.
