Interview with James Johnson

CEO of Football Australia

Sydney - Australia

Can you briefly introduce yourself?

I am the CEO of Football Australia. I worked at City Football Group (CFG) as its Senior Vice President of External Affairs from 2018-19. Prior to CFG, I worked at FIFA as Head of Professional Football. I have been fortunate to learn about Multiple Club Ownership (MCO) from different stakeholder angles in each capacity.

What is your experience in terms of Multi-Club Ownership?

During my time at FIFA, my then-team regulated FIFA’s MCO principles as they related to competition integrity at Confederations and National levels. At CFG, I took a leadership role in advancing the group’s ownership interests globally, including advising on compliance with the competition regulator’s rules around MCO.
