International standards for female football players: A brief overview in light of the Brazilian legal system

The regulations in Brazil are being updated to reflect the growth of women’s football and the international regulatory framework.

For many years, women were viewed as a homemaker, a supporter of men’s activities, and a basic and pure expression of femininity. Many people did not believe that women could be more than that and that they aspired to be more. The essential goal was to conquer new avenues, even if they were regarded improper for your nature.

For many years, sexism was the louder voice.  Taking Brazil as an example, the right to play the organized football was forbidden in 1941 by the Brazilian Legal Decree no. 3.199/41. The prohibition lasted for 40 years and is still one of the most significant obstacles to the professionalization of women’s football in Brazil.
