European Leagues Extends EU Competition Complaint Against FIFA to Women’s International Match Calendar

On 8 September 2026, European Leagues announced that it had extended its competition law complaint before the European Commission against FIFA to cover the Women’s International Match Calendar and related regulatory decisions affecting women’s football. The World Leagues Association supported the move on the same day, while FIFA maintained that the 2026-2029 calendar had been adopted following extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders.

European Leagues said that the extension had been formally submitted to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition. It broadens the scope of the complaint originally filed on 14 October 2024 concerning FIFA’s International Match Calendar in men’s football. The original complaint was lodged by European Leagues together with FIFPRO Europe and LaLiga.
