The Spanish Administrative Court of Sport (Tribunal Administrativo del Deporte - TAD) is the State collegiate body responsible for resolving, as the final administrative instance, disciplinary disputes and certain sports-related matters, including anti-doping and the supervision of electoral processes within national sports federations. It also decides on special administrative appeals established by anti-doping legislation. This article aims to explain this role while assessing some recent cases.
What is the TAD?
The TAD is a national collegiate body forming a central component of Spain’s sports law framework. It is formally attached to the National Sports Council (Consejo Superior de Deportes - CSD),[1] while supposedly enjoying full functional independence from it, thereby ensuring autonomous and impartial decision-making.
