Introduction

In September 2025, the European Court of Justice will examine a series of significant preliminary references concerning sports law, football governance and the application of EU internal market rules. These proceedings address critical legal issues involving the regulation of online sports betting, the scope of judicial protection in football disciplinary proceedings and the balance between athletes’ privacy rights and the public’s right to transparency in anti-doping enforcement.

Four hearings and two Opinions from Advocates General are expected.
